B.Busygin's photo The lowerings are of the most different shape and size - from several square meters to tens hectares, with the depth from 20-30 centimeters to 10 meters and more. These hollows or so-called shallow depressions are mostly filled with water, forming lakes.
Kurgan region is very rich in mineral resources. On the territory of the region the presence of coalfields is detected. Separate areas in Shchuchje and Shumikha districts are perspective for butiminous and brown coals.

Oil and natural gas
Manifistation of oil and gas is known in the region for a long time (Alabuga, Petukhovo). But they didn't bring to the revelation of fields. Last years the supposition was put forward, that oil and gas at the south of Western Siberia, including the territory of the region, should place on considerable depths.

Peat
The majority of the detected fields of peat is arranged in the northwestern part of the region. Several hundreds of fields are detected.

B.Busygin's photo Iron ore
The Kurgan iron ore zone is the direct prolongation of the Main Turgai iron ore belt in Northern Kazakhstan. The Kurgan zone is situated in the north-east direction from the Kazakhstan border up to the Tyumen region border.

Clays and loams
The main supplies of the brick stuff are concentrated in the western part of the region, where the majority of brick-works is situated. The eastern areas have not got sufficient raw base for brick production. The main type of brick raw is the marine clays of the Paleogene age. The thickness of such clays is uncovered by river valleys of the Tobol, the Miass, the Iset and their tributaries. The clays depth in some areas reaches 30-35 meters.

Claydite loam and tripolites
Their main deposits are: Zyryanovskoe (Kargapolje district), Kurgan and Koltashovskoe (Ketovo district). They are also uncovered by the Tobol, the Miass, the Iset. The raw is of the highest quality, has large width.

The main field of refractory, soft clays of marine genesis is Karasinskoe (Yurgamysh district). The search is also conducted in other districts of the region. The most perspective in this respect is Mishkino district.

Building sands
Fields of sands and sand-tophaseous composites are arranged in the western districts of the region, near to the region of demolition of the Urals terrigenous detrius. They were formed on the lower terraces of the Iset, the Miass, being the alluvium of these rivers. The most known fields of building sands are Vodolazovskoe in Kataisk district and Kosulinskoe in Shchuchje district. The giant fields of concrete sand and gravel of the high quality are prospected in Dalmatov district.

Glass sands

Only one field of ocher-clay is known in Kurtamysh district. The clays formed in the late Paleogene. The ocher is of high quality.

Mineral salts
Kurgan region is rich in saline lakes, which contain sodium sulphate, soda salt, mirabilite, sodium chloride and a number of other salts and elements. Such lakes are located in Zverinogolovsk, Shchuchje, Kurtamysh, Petukhovo and other districts.
