Satara Trek

This was a three day trek organised by "Chakram Hikers" of Mulund.

I was not sure about going since my work was not finished. I had taken the bag with me though. In the evening I finally thought that I could go and then I joined. They had two Tata Sumo booked with total 18 people.

We left mulund at 10 in the evening. Journey was through Mumbai Pune Expresshihgway. We reached Satara in the morning.

Our first stop was VardhanGad, a small fort near satara. From there we reached Santoshgad. This areas was pretty dry one compared to the previous one. First we visited the small mandir at the bottom. A half hour climb took us to top. There was a rectangular dry well atop with steps to drop in. It was a nice site to see. We had small rock climbing session by one of the climbing experts. After that we got down from opposite side of the hill.

Next stop was an interesting one. We visited "Vathar-Nimbalkar" village to see old forts of Nimbalkar regime. They were simply marvelous. We met one ancestor of those and he showed us each and every corner of the place. We also had our lunch here.

Next stop was bottom of "Sitamai's Palana". We dropped out of Sumos and gave them instruction about where to catch us next day morning. Then we all clmibed up to reach a lonely "Dharmashala" on the mountain. This was our first night pitstop. Gas stove was put on and cooks were ready to cook the dinner for us. We had a chilled water bath from the nearby well. We quickly slept after having dinner as the walk has been long to the hilltop.

Morning, we left the place towards waru gad, we had to climb one more hill (we were actually on a plateu). To make things exciting, one tractor gave us lift along the road. When reached to the top, we realised that Varugad was actually on the mountain next to us, so we got down and up to reach varugad. It was lonely gad with just one tree atop.

From there we got down and found our Sumos. We reached to the "Girvi" village and saw some nice temples. After that we reached to MahimanGad. This gad was a beautiful place to take a panorama shoot and I didnt waste this opportunity. Back at the bottom, we had our lunch for the second day.

Then we drove in search of Bhushangad. This was a tricky drive as we missed our road once and put the vehicles in a stony terrain. Finally we reached there. This place was also a nice one with a temple atop.

It was evening and we again missed our road to our next destination. We had our dinner in a small hotel. At about 10 in the evening, we started climbing Jarandeshwar. This was a quick but steep climb lasting for almost an hour due to night. On the top there was a big temple and dharmashala. The group dropped in the dharmshala while three of us joined the bhajan in the temple. After it was over, we slept in a small but beutiful temple of Ram next to it.

Final morning and we started climbing down after a photo-session. Breakfast ws sweet Upma made by the cook team. we reached down to find the sumos waiting. Our next and final stop was a small hill. Atop the hill we found a deep black den with idols of Datta. We had our lunch at the bottom and then started back to Mumbai.
