This is the native place of my friend Rahul. Satara is pretty cool in this season. We stayed for 7 days.
Satara is 100KM away from the Pune City by road. State transport buses are easily available from Mumbai, Pune and any other main city in Maharashtra. Hotels are also available for accomodations at reasonable rates.
Satara has been on the historic map of Maharashtra. Remains of that can still be seen while you roam in the city. The Bhosale heritage is still present in one form or another. Satara has many places to visit and each of it is equally enjoying. Main places for visit in and near Satara are
Located in the city itself, this fort is now used as host for radio, TV and mobile antennae. The lights from the towers make sure you can't miss the location from any part of city and nearby places.
This is just opposite the Satara Main Bus Stand. Here you can see the various items related to the Maratha Rulers.
This is located 15Km away from the city. Buses ply from the Main stand from morning to evening 5'clock. This little fort was used by "Ramdas Swami". The fort has various little temples, ponds and plane grounds for watching the surround beauty. You can also spot the site of a Dam in progress. Accomodation is available on the fort.
The project is on the same road to Sajjangadh. Almost 200 big wind mills are situated here which can be seen from a long distance. Many waterfalls are nearby and going after monsoon is really nice fun.
Very little known to travellers, this lake is 24km away from Satara City. The journey to the lake is as nice as the lake itself. Lake offers very nice place to see the Sunset (Chk out my Photo Gallery). This place is free from rush of shops and people. It also offers good surrounding for those who can spend a day there. Best plan to visit it is to leave in morning with food and returning back in the evening as no accomodation is available nearby.
